The number 8

The 8 symbolizes the astral primal principle and thus has its origin in two interpenetrating worlds: in the vital, earthly and astral space (the latter in the sense of the temporally limited and transient state). The 8 as the doubling of the 4 is thus the doubling of the penetration of the will into space, i. e. the transition from finiteness to infinity. In the 4, space not only receives its dimension, but also the material dimension, the spirit that enters with the 4 as if through a door - and forms man as such. Spirit and matter interact. The 8 is taking this step and in a different direction. It releases spirit from matter, and with it it also releases the spirit from the associated laws and orders. (The forms and their orders left behind in this way remain in the "lower quadrilateral" and are kept ready for other "fulfilment of form" as a result of the laws of species conservation and karmic duties.

The 8 refers to this world as well as to the hereafter, connects being and non-being, life and death. In the 4 as well as in the 8 is death, death, to be born in other spheres/spaces. The lower and upper quadrants symbolize these transitions.

The 8 in its numerical form resembles an hourglass: this is the hour of birth and the hour of dying. Both the first hour and the last hour are thus connected with infinity and eternity (remember also the infinite sign from mathematics, of?, whereby this 8 is "put" from the vertical into the horizontal position and thus does not refer to spiritual, but to spatial and temporal infinity). The 8 symbolizes the "fruit of life" - what one has sown, one will have to carry in the fortnight on the four levels of one's being and body on the four levels of one's being and one's body in the four levels of cause and effect and in the reciprocal behavior of spirit/intellect/soul/body.

The 8 as a numerical symbol of the soul also stands for form and design, for harmony in art, beauty and eros. As an antipole to the 3 (spiritual expression of will) the 8 wants to harmonize what has been created in the sense of the forms and to improve and adapt to existing orders on earth. From this originates a sense of beauty, feeling for art and eros. High perfection within earthly creation is the goal, and this also in the sense of sensation, in the concept of beauty, in artful design as well as in simplification, appropriateness, style formation and in earthly experience. The desire to achieve external advantages and the greatest possible amenities, the 8 awakens ambition, even to the point of arrogance. Prosperity, money and possession become important. This is a necessity which demands that we do this for our practical, daily survival to a certain extent, a means to an end. But it is misunderstood as an end in itself.

The sense of comfort, relief and the evaluation of female love development, the highest sense of physical happiness and security in goodness and softness also originates in the 8.
