The causes of vows of poverty and humility can originate from both this life and past lives.
These can have arisen very subtly, for example through an innate willingness to serve, whether through feudal rule or dogmatic church precepts. Rituals were created here, which were generated by spoken (promised) vows. For example: I am not worthy – I am a sinner – I am a guilty sinner – I want to serve with my life – I want to live with pain and suffering in order to please – Through my fault ... – I am only a servant and not free – I am unclean – I swear ... and many more.

For example, promises, oaths and vows made to people who have long since passed away, to whom one still feels bound and therefore guilty.

It can happen that we no longer remember certain vows, oaths, pledges and promises, yet they can still torment us throughout our lives. This can manifest itself in situations where, despite all our efforts, we are unable to achieve any success. For example, we may be diligent, honest and ambitious, i.e. doing our best, yet still see no positive results.
This can persist throughout one's entire life and cause a great deal of suffering, feelings of inferiority, a sense of deprivation and, ultimately, various illnesses, because one is then viewed by the outside world as a failure, stupid, incompetent, lazy and also as a black sheep, unlucky and much more, which can be very humiliating and deeply hurtful. 
Such a life becomes a ‘vicious circle’ and the existing vows are ultimately reinforced even further.

That is why it is never wrong for every person to consciously cleanse themselves again and again, even from the negative opinions and thoughts of other people who still have the old image of them in mind and project it back onto them.
